Udupi, Mar 1, 2014: The special forest mobile squad raided a house and took possession of porcupine and wild cats which were in illegal possession of  Lakshman Naik (46) , a resident of Kukkikatte in Bellampalli village.

A team led by PSI Shekar and other forest officials on receiving information acted upon this case and arrested the culprit.  Endangered Species Act (ESA) 1973 prohibits rearing of endangered species and the culprit was brought under the preview of the said Act.

The animals were found in cage made of wire-mesh. A case has been filed in the Hiriyadka police station.

As per the orders of the court the rescued animals have now been shifted to Pilikula Nisarga Dhama.
