Mangaluru, Nov 18, 2016: It is widely reported that the KPCC, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee will launch the state-wide birth centenary celebrations of late Prime minister Indira Gandhi from Mangaluru on November 19.
District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the Congress workers’ convention as a part of the birth centenary celebrations. "Indira Gandhi was known for nationalisation of banks, Land Reforms Act and prohibition of bonded labour system. To create awareness on the contributions of the late prime minister to build a strong nation, the KPCC will organise state-wide programmes for a year," he added.
The statue of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru installed by the Mangaluru City Corporation will be unveiled at Nehru Maidan on November 19 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwara, working president Dinesh Gundu Rao and others will take part in the celebrations. The Congress workers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts will take part in the convention.
The Congress Bhavan will be inaugurated at Kadri Market on November 19. AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh will inaugurate the Bhavan. The DCC has decided to name the Congress Bhavan as Indira Gandhi birth centenary Bhavan.
Rai said that communal forces are trying to create unrest in Mangaluru. The people of the district should not cooperate with such forces. Condemning the incident of attempt to murder and stabbing in Mangaluru Assembly constituency, Rai said that he has already held talks with the police, to act against miscreants.
