Janata Dal (S) Udupi unit will be revived, president

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Dec 14, 2016: Speaking to media on Dec 13, Tuesday, the newly elected JD(S) district president Yogish Shetty Kaup said that the office-bearers of the district unit are changed keeping in view the forthcoming Assembly elections.

He said regional parties would play a major role not only in state politics but also in national politics following the change in the choices of voters. Earlier, voters would prefer only national parties and assumed that the polities would offer secular governance.  The district unit of JD(S) is all set for the revival and the party would be strengthened right from the grass root-level.

As the belief of voters in national parties turned out an illusion, regional parties are taking centre stage. In Karnataka, political polarisation has paved the way for brighter hopes of the JD(S) assuming power in the next Assembly elections.

The BJP was out of the minds of voters owing to the scams and corruptions. On the other hand, the Congress which came to power assuring clean and fair governance is following the BJP and has become a hub of massive corruption and illegal activities, he charged.

Asserting that the party would be strengthened from grass root-level and the core issues bothering the district would be taken up, Shetty said the party is undergoing bad days in the political setup. The JD(S) would surely emerge as the one of the powerful political parties and play a decisive role in the forthcoming Assembly elections, he added.

In response to a question on former minister and estranged Congress leader Jayaprakash Hegde returning to the JD(S), Shetty said that Hegde was supported and promoted by former Prime Minister Deve Gowda.

Hegde reached the heights of his political career with the support. Hence, the party would always welcome him with open arms.

His return to the JD(S) will strengthen the party. Shetty said there are also plans to convenience the leaders who left the parties to come back to the party. The membership drive would also be taken up shortly, he added.
