Mangalore, August 16, 2104: Steven Rego, sub-editor of Kannada daily ‘Vijaya Karnataka’, was selected for the ‘Siri Cinema Award 2014’ instituted by Siri Creations Mangalore and Chitra Sangama. The conferring of the award will be held in Bangalore later this month, said a release.
A sub-editor and correspondent at the City Bureau of Vijaya Karnataka, Rego has attracted attention through his write-ups with a touch of social concern have proved his sincerity and commitment as well as his concern for the well-being of the society.
Earlier, Steven bagged the KJ Shetty Kadandale Award for his report titled “ Malligeya Kaatu Vaasane, Tragedy Ooru Shankerapura,” explaining the adverse effects of the use of pesticides on jasmine plants and Pa. Go. Award instituted by the DK Working Journalists Union, in memory of the late journalist Pa. Gopalkrishna. The award was for his write-up ‘Nandini Maayavaaguva Munna’ which has thrown light on environmental concerns with reference to Nandini river.
Hailing from Darandakukku in Puttur, Rego had his early schooling at Kodimbady Higher Primary School and later graduated from St Philomena College, Puttur. He also holds a post-graduate degree in journalism and mass communications from Mangalore University.
