Mangalore Dec 12, 2012 : Zilla Panchayat President Koragappa Naik and Vice President Rithesh Shetty have said that the interests of the villagers in the vicinity of the proposed IT SEZ in Pajeer and Kairangala will be protected.
They were speaking at the KDP monthly review meeting held on December 11, Tuesday. During discussion on the issue, the ZP engineer Satyanarayana said nine villages including Ira, Balepuni, Chelur and Kurnadu require 0.25 MGD of water and the KIADB which will be supplying water to the IT SEZ can also provide water to the villages where the water supply pipelines pass through.
It was informed at the meeting that one MGD of water from Netravathi will be supplied to the industrial area. However, when KIADB officials said water cannot be shared keeping the future needs in mind, the meeting unanimously resolved to urge the KIADB to supply water to nine villages while supplying water to the industrial area.
The meeting later on even resolved to ensure steps to complete the rain harvesting unit works in schools.
The ZP chief also took exception to the failure of the authorities to drill borewells under Ganga Kalyana scheme. Responding to this, the BR Ambedkar Corporation officials assured to take up the works on December 21.
The executive officers of the taluk panchayats present in the meeting informed the meeting that steps have been taken to ban plastic in Gram Panchayat level.
