Apr 20, 2016: A reports sates, the KMC’s Forensic Museum will clarify public knowledge on questions such as, How and what is post-mortem? Why is it required? Why does a post-mortem take time? What are the techniques involved in determining the cause of death- whether murder, suicide or any type of unnatural death?

The renovated Forensic museum which was inaugurated by Dr H S Ballal, pro- chancellor, Manipal University recently, gives a layman perspective into the forensic world, which otherwise is a grey area for the common man.

The museum consists of very interesting and rare soft specimens related to medico-legal cases which was conducted by the department over decades. ``One specimen speaks volumes of stories regarding a case,’’ says Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty, State Medico legal Consultant and Professor and Head of Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC.

The museum has been divided into nine wide medico legal sections. Each section displays relevant specimen, pictorial description of cases, models and charts. All these would make anyone to understand the medico legal implications and toxicological inferences in a very lucid style, Dr Shetty adds.

"Plans are set to come up in future with self-learning modules, virtual digital library and about the facts of interesting solved crime cases in undivided Dakshina Kannada in pictorial form. The museum hopes to have a separate sections on pioneers in the forensics and how the field has evolved over till the present day as a mark of respect to them,’’ he notes.

Dr Shetty says the department wishes to make provisions to make the museum used in an effective manner by allowing personnel from police, lawyers, press and public to visit on invitation basis so that they would be aware on lot of medico legal issues and make them aware on the unknown aspects of Forensics - a first of this kind in the country.
