Kamabalabettu auto driver detained under POCSO

Mangaluru, May 02, 2017: It is reported that an auto-driver was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for sexually assaulting a teen age student while she was on way her back after a shopping errand. The incident occurred under Vittal police station limits.


According to police, the arrested person has been identified as Ashraf, 33, resident of Kamabalabettu. Police who have booked him under POCSO Act and other Indian Penal Code sections said that on May 27, when the girl victim was returning after buying groceries, she was approached by Ashraf, an auto driver. Ashraf told girl to get into his vehicle and he would drop her back home. While on the way, Ashraf sexually assaulted her. The girl initially didn’t reveal anything to her parents.


Later when the school was re-opened, the victim was hesitant go to school and said she does not want to go anywhere. When her parents repeatedly asked her about the reason, she revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Ashraf. Later parents approached Vittal Police Station and filed a complaint against him. Based on girl’s complaint, police have detained Ashraf and he has been sent to judicial custody
