Karnataka Govt’s gift to DK - a new comprehensive DC complex at Padil

Mangalore, Aug 16, 2014:   In his key note address on the 68th  Independence Day s at Nehru Maidan, District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai declared that it has been planned to construct the full-fledged district administration complex which aims at providing all government services to the people under one roof, at Padil. It could be recalled that the Karnataka State Housing Board had identified four places for the purpose - Urwa, Kodialbail, Kadri and Padil.

In the prime address, the Minister briefed about several initiatives taken up by the State government for the welfare of the people.  The government had amended  section 94 Cof the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, it will help to regularise the unauthorised construction of houses by poor people on  government land in rural areas. As many as 22,659 applications have been received so far in the district, seeking regularisation of houses, he said.

“The government has distributed a compensation of Rs 29 crore to help 44,850 agriculturists who have incurred loss due to fruit rot disease affecting their areca plants. A new system has been introduced in the form of revenue adalats at gram panchayat level to solve the errors in RTC. This system helps the farmers at large. A sum of Rs 2.60 crore worth work under development of naxal-affected areas has been completed in the district,” Minister Rai said.  He also said that Rs one crore has been released for the construction of Abbakka Bhavan and an additional Rs 20 lakh for the construction of Gadi Bhavan.

 I-Day  Honours :  The 68th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the programme organised by the DK district administration at Nehru Maidan. Earlier, the District-in-Charge Minister hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour.

Ex-serviceman Vice Admiral BR Rao was felicitated on the occasion and Wing Commander late Darryl Castelino was honoured posthumously. Darryl had died in a chopper crash last year, while rescuing the devotees at flood-ridden Kedarnath.  As many as 20 officers and teachers including Private Secretary to the Minister of Urban Development, Harish Kumar K, Mangalore City Corporation Zonal Commissioner Prameela, Tahsildar C N Manjunath, Manikya, were presented with silver and bronze medals for their exemplary  services during the 2011 census.

Free computers were distributed to students from scheduled caste community for their academic achievement and taxis and autorickshaws were handed over to Koraga community beneficiaries under ITDP scheme. 

A colourful march past by 18 platoons was carried out on the occasion. NCC Army Junior won the first prize in the march past, while NCC Airwing Senior won the second place.The function was tastefully organised with excellent participation and order prevailing.
