Mangalore, 17, 2013: The Karnataka State Bus Owners Federation has decided to hike bus fares by 10 to 15 per cent in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district from Tuesday, August 20.


Addressing the press meet on Aug 17, Saturday Rajavarma Ballal, president, Karnataka State Bus owners Federation and S Sadananda Chatra, chief secretary said that under the revised fare, to be in place from August 20, the minimum rate for travel in city buses will be Rs. 7, up by Rs. 1, while a ticket from Mangalore to Udupi will cost Rs. 55 (up from Rs. 50), and from Udupi to Kundapur the fare will be Rs. 38, up by Rs. 4. But 50 per cent concession for the students will be continued as same.


He said that the government has passed an order to revise the bus fare according to Motor Vehicle Act. Accordingly, the bus fare for express and service buses will be hiked.


They further said that the government has been revising the diesel rate depending on the price in the international market. Hence bus fare hike is inevitable. Though there is provision to hike bus fare by 20 to 25 per cent, we are hiking it by 10 to 15 per cent.


Jayarama Shekha, president, Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association, Balakrishna Rai, treasurer, Suresh Nayak, treasurer of state federation, joint secretaries Madhav Naik and K. Jagadeesh Shetty were also present during the press meet.
