Kasargod, June 9: Three policemen, serving in Home Guards at kasargod, were sustained serious injuries after an illegally sand carrying tempo hit their police vehicle at Chattanchal, Kasargod on June 8. Balakrishnan, driver of the police jeep, escaped unhurt in the incident.
When Mangaloretoday Contacted Kasargod town police station, they said that policemen from Home Guards were returning to local police station after arresting an accused in an illegal liquor case from Chattanchal. When they were passing from Chattanchal, they saw a tempo carrying illegal sand. They have indicated the tempo driver to stop running. But the tempo driver has ignored sub-inspectors signal and escalated the speed of tempo. The Sub-inspector has ordered his jeep driver to chase the tempo to catch the culprits. On receiving senior officer’s order, Balakrishnan, jeep driver, has succeeded in overtaking it and blocking its further movement at Padoor. But, as soon as the policemen got down, the tempo driver suddenly started his vehicle and hit their jeep.
Town police sub inspectors, Babu Peringoth (36), constable, Y V Rameshan (36), and Sudhakaran (44) have been admitted into a hospital in the town.
Soon after the incident, culprits have escaped from the location. A case has been registered by the police in this regard.
