Kasargod, Sep 13, 2013: Kasargod police have busted an autorickshaw theft racket and have arrested three persons. As many as eight stolen autorickshaws have been seized.
Those arrested are P V Rasheed (26) of Hosadurga, K Ganesh (47), owner of Sri Ganesh workshop at Kushalnagar and Majid Haji (46) of Aavi.
Interrogations of the three revealed that they had stolen as many as 20 autorickshaws in the past one year. It is learnt they used to sell the stolen vehicles after changing their appearance.
Police had launched investigations following several complaints of autorickshaw thefts. Police sources said of the three Rashid used to sell the stolen vehicles to Majid who would take the vehicles to the garage of Ganesh where they were given a new look and then sold.
It is learnt, the amount collected from selling the autos was shared between Rashid and Majid. They used to then pay Rs 1000 to Ganesh apart from the cost towards the repair. Interrogations revealed that they used to steal autorickshaws from crowded places like railway stations. Police have also said illicit liquor etc used to be transported in such autorickshaws.
Investigations are underway.
