Mangalore, Aug 25, 2012 : Kasargod police, who arrested Abdul Jabbar and Usman of Bantwal on August 23, Friday, in connection with a fake currency racket, are now trying to find out how the duo managed to transport Rs. 30 lakh in fake currency through Mangalore Airport.
Usman told the police that he had flown all the way to Dubai with two bags filled with fake currency notes. One of the bags contained Rs. 24 lakh and another bag contained Rs. 6 lakh in fake currency notes. Both bags were given to him by Moidin Haji of Dubai, who instructed him to hand the bags over to two people in Kasargod. He said that, as per the instructions, he had already given the bag containing Rs. 6 lakhs to Abdul Jabbar of Kasargod and the bag containing Rs. 24 lakh to another person, whose identity he did not reveal.
The brain behind the fake currency racket appears to be Moidin Haji, and the police have already launched a manhunt for him.
The police will present Usman before the court and will request his custody for a few more days to get more information regarding the fake currency racket. The police wonder how the two managed to smuggle the fake currency through Mangalore Airport without arousing the suspicions of the customs officers.
The police have also found out that the two had purchased gold worth Rs. 1.89 lakh at Malabar Gold in Kanhangad. They are also in the process of interrogating Abdul Jabbar to find out how much he knows about the racket.
