Mangaluru, April 14, 2016: At least 66 candidates are in the arena for elections to 23 seats of the newly formed Kaup Town Municipal Council (TMC) after the scrutiny of nomination papers on Apr 13. A media release issued by the Udupi DC Office, indicates that 67 nomination papers had been filed by the 66 contesting candidates and they were found to be in order after their scrutiny. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 15. The elections would be held on April 24.
The counting of votes would be taken up on April 27.
The Kaup Town Municipal Council was created after merging Kaup and its surrounding villages, and has a total of 23 municipal wards. The Kaup TMC is located in the Kaup Assembly Constituency, which is represented by the Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, who is also the Udupi District In-charge Minister.
