Apr 16, 2016: It is stated in a media note from Udupi DC office that at least 58 candidates are in the fray for the election to 23 seats of the newly formed Kaup Town Municipal Council (TMC),  the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers was April 15.

The Congress and the BJP, Bharatiya Janata Party have fielded 23 candidates each, while the Janata Dal (Secular) has fielded five candidates. The Social Democratic Party of India had fielded four candidates, while three independent candidates are also in the fray.

The elections would be held in Kaup on April 24. The counting of votes would be taken up on April 27.
