Mangalore, Jan 8, 2013: The seventh edition of the poetry festival Kavita Fest-2013 will be held at Tumbay on January 13 under the aegis of the Kavita Trust, Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation and Department of Kannada and Culture. The Fest will be inaugurated by renowned Konkani poet and activist Uday L Bhembre.
This was informed to reporters here on January 8, Tuesday by Melwyn Rodrigues, President of the Trust. He said a colourful procession will be taken out prior to the Fest and added over 150 poets from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa will be taking part in the event.
The inaugurator Uday Bhembre will present a paper on ‘Poet and his Social Responsibility.’ Maxim Lobo from Bangalore and Nutan Sakhardande from Goa will respond to the presentation, Rodrigues informed.
He also stated that the final round of the Rohan and Lavita Monteiro-All India Konkani Poetry Recitation Competition, to be held on the occasion will be participated by 28 finalists.
Uday Mhambro from Goa will preside over the multilingual poetry session to be held as part of the Fest. Several poets including Amrita Athrady (Tulu), Kiran Parmar(Hindi), Indu Gersappe, Stany Bela, Wilma Bantwal, Francis Fernandes Cascia, Geo Agrar, Ashok Bhonslo, Dr L Suneetha Bai ( Konkani), Ashraf Apollo (Beary) and V S Bhat (Kannada) will recite the poems penned by them.
Fr Prashanth Madtha, Kannada-Konkani writer and lexicographer will be the chief guest at the valedictory function. Goan poet Rajav Pawar will be presented the Mathias Family Poetry Award. The winners of the Late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues – Memorial All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition will also be awarded on the occasion.
Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, William Pais and Andrew L D’Cunha, Trustees of Kavita Trust, were also present at the press meet.
