Konkani Academy to launch directory of Konkani artistes in Karnataka

Mangalore, Sep 9,2014 : In a press note it is stated  that, ’The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy’  is set to bring out a directory of Konkani artistes. Academy Registrar Devadas Pai said that the aim of the Academy is to support the artistes to take part in all the cultural programmes of the Academy.

The Academy has decided to conduct a census of the artistes to give representation to all the programmes of the Academy. Artistes whose mother tongue is Konkani will come under the purview of the census.

Music, singing, mrudanga, tabala, veena, guitar, piano, violin, drums, arcodian, nagaswara, saxophone, mouth organ, mandolin, harmonium, gumate, dholak, flute artistes, dance forms, theatre, Yakshagana Bayalata, Gombeyata, cinema, sculpture, painting and other art form artistes will be included.

The artistes should send their names, address, phone number, achievement to the Academy.

The Academy will support two scholars to take up post graduation studies in Konkani at Goa University. The Academy will fund the expenses of the students and later use their expertise to strengthen Konkani studies at the graduate level. The candidate should have completed degree. Interested students can approach the Academy at 0824-2453167.

In another initiative, the Academy in association with Kannada and Culture department will conduct a state-level Konkani theatre workshop from October 2 to 4.  The workshop is being organised to start Konkani theatre repertories in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikmagalur, Kasargod, Dharwad, Bangalore and Mysore. The entry is limited to ten persons from each district.

The participants should be in the age group of 16 to 35 and must speak in Konkani. The workshop will be held at Kalangann in Shakthinagar in association with repertory Kalakul. The participants will be trained to present short plays. There is no entry fee for the workshop. Interested can submit their names with the Academy before September 20.
