Mangalore, Sept. 30, 2012: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organized Konkani Stri at Lalbagh on September 29, Saturday. Usha Kini, show performer at Doordarshan in Bangalore, inaugurated the event and Kasargod Chinna, president of the academy, presided.
Jayashree Shanbagh, former director of Akaashvani, social worker Judith Mascarenhas, B. Devdas Pai, Gladys Rego, and others were the dignitaries of on the dais.
In her address, Usha Kini said that Konkani programs are broadcast only on DD, adding that the DD might seek the academy’s assistance to add more Konkani programs.
Addressing the gathering, Kasargod Chinna said that the academy is proud to organize programs for women, adding that Jayashree Shanbagh and Gladys Rego have contributed greatly to Konkani literature. He also urged women to showcase their hidden talents and contribute to society.
The academy honored Gladys Rego and Jayashree Shanbagh for their contributions to Konkani language. Vidya Gulvadi and Joyce Ozario entertained the audience with their melodious numbers.
