Mangalore, Nov 27, 2012 : The grand finale of the Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Inter Parish Singing Competition was held on Jeppu Church grounds on Nov 25 Sunday with 45 finalists taking part. The champion of the event was Kulshekar parish.
The organizers presented floral tributes to Wilfy Rebimbus, the late legendary singer, at the beginning of the grand finale. Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, parish priest of Jeppu, delivered the welcome address. Meena Rebimbus, wife of late Wilfy Rebimbus, was honored with a bouquet. Henry Diana D’Souza, who had sponsored the prizes, was also honored on this occasion.
The parishioners of Jeppu presented a variety of entertainment events on this occasion. The funds raised from this event will be used on providing educational assistance to deserving, but poor students from the parish.
The judges of the event were Francis Richard D’Souza, Fr. Denis D’Sa, and Dr. Prashanth Raj. The results were announced at the end of the event and prizes were awarded to the winners.
Among those present were Hemacharya, editor of Daijiworld Weekly; Joseph Martis, rector of Jeppu Seminary; and Melwyn Rodrigues, poet and director of Daijiworld, were also present.
The results are as follows: Samson Coelho of Cascia and Elton D’Souza of Bejai emerged as the winner and runner-up of the Boys Solo category, Leesha Pereira of Valencia and Merceeta D’Souza of Milagres were the winner and runner-up of the Girls Solo category, Ashwin D’Costa of Kulshekar and Anil Rupesh D’Souza of Cascia were the winner and runner-up of the Gents Solo category, and Anjali Andrade of Kordel and Denora Fernandes of Derebail were the winner and runner-up of the Ladies Solo category.
In the mixed duet category, Ashwin D’Costa and Anjali Andrade won the first prize and Bluma Pinto and Kevin Suares won the second prize. In the married couples category, Suraj and Aruna Noronha won the first prize and Roshan and Meera D’Souza won the second prize.
