Kundapur: Newly built boat worth Rs one cr gutted in fire mishap in boat factory

Kundapur, Aug 4, 2013:  Property worth several crores of rupees was destroyed in a major fire in a boat factory named Mathoshree Boat Building Yard  located on Kundapur Church Road on August 3, Saturday.

The workers in the factory were busy manufacturing five boats when the fire broke out. Some workers noticed smoke from within a newly built boat. However, by the time the fire service personnel rushed to the spot, the fire did sufficient damage to a newly built boat. Several other nearby boats were also damaged in the fire. An electric short circuit was said to be the cause of the fire.

The factory was owned by one Ramachandra Shiroorkar. It is learnt, the factory had spent  Rs one crore on the boat manufactured for a man from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. Investigations are underway.
