Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 14, 2012: The lifeguards at Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project saved a Bangalore girl who had jumped into the sea with the intention of ending her life on July 14, Saturday.

Shweta (21), daughter of Shivakumara Swamy of Electronics City, Bangalore arrived at KSRTC Bus Stand, hired an auto rickshaw, and asked the driver to take her to a beach. The driver took her to Panambur Beach.

Yathish Baikampady, chief executive officer of Beach Tourism Development Project, told Times of India that Shwetha worked at the family clothes store in Bangalore and was upset because her uncle scolded her for not doing her work properly. He said that she only had a mobile phone with her when she arrived at the beach. The lifeguards, who saw her jump into the sea, immediately rescued her, he added.

The Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project immediately alerted the Panambur police, who called the girl’s parents. Mr. Yathish said that the girl’s parents arrived and took her back to Bangalore. He said that the guards could spot Shwetha because of the clear visibility owing to lack of rains.

The Panambur police did not register a case against the girl, but let her off with a warning.
