Udupi, Aug 12, 2014: Kota Srinivas Poojary, former minister and BJP Backward Class Morcha district president, demanded the government to withdraw the order of non-delivery of ration items, if public fail to link EPIC card or Aadhar card number to their ration cards, by August 15. The former minister threatened state-wide protest, if the government fails to cancel the order.
Instead of withholding the ration items to those whose ration card do not match the EPIC number, the government should initiate measures to verify the authenticity of their ration card in GPs through the officials. He said there are 1,31,81,358 ration cards in the state. Of which, 28,41,076 cards are APL and 92,41,757 cards BPL. But only 70,08,247 cards are linked to the EPIC number.
Attempts are made to cancel 66,73,111 cards across state. In Udupi district, there are 1,08,297 APL cards, 1,32,148 BPL cards, and 18,715 Anna-Anthyodaya cards, of which 1,37,708 were attached to EPIC number. 1,21,454 cards are under the threat of cancellation the sysytem is against the wish of people, he alleged
