Mangalore, May 25: Dr. Sabrina Nasrin Huq, a citizen of Bangladesh, is the only woman passenger of the Boeing 747, which crashed at Mangalore Airport on Saturday, to have survived. She is now eager to get discharged from the hospital and continue with her career. Sabrina wants to resume her internship and then fly to the US for higher studies. Right now, Sabrina’s left leg is in plaster and her body has sutures all over.
Her mother Rokeya Khatun flew down from Dubai to take care of her daughter. She said that she is sure that her daughter will emerge stronger.
Sabrina is a house surgeon at Kasturba Gandhi Medical College in Manipal, the medical hub of Karnataka. Her father Dr. Mohammed Mahbood-ul-Huq has a clinic in Al Ain in the UAE. He could not accompany his wife to Mangalore because Sabrina’s younger sister Ismat Jerin Huq is answering her higher secondary exams.
Dr. Dinesh Kadam, who is taking care of Sabrina, said that she is recovering quickly. She only complains about VIP visits because she knows as a doctor that cross infection from strangers can hinder speedy recovery and prolong her stay in hospital. She requests to be left alone so that she can resume her internship at Kasturba as early as possible, reports the doctor.
Sabrina was seated somewhere at the front of the plane, in the seventh row. She was half asleep when the planed touched down and overshot the runway. Thinking in her drowsiness that she was in a car, she tried to undo the seat belt. However, she soon realized she was on a plane. She pulled free her left leg, which was sandwiched between seats, and escaped.
