Lorry dashes into auto rickshaw killing 2 women

Udupi, June 4, 2012: Two women, one of them pregnant, were killed when a goods lorry dashed into the auto rickshaw they were in at Santhekatte on June 4, Monday. 

The lorry was on its way from Kundapur to Udupi and the auto rickshaw was going in the opposite direction. 

The deceased are Meenakshi (32) and her mother Jalaja (55) of Saligrama. The mother was taking her pregnant daughter to the Udupi Ajjarkad Government Hospital in an auto rickshaw belonging to Meenakshi’s husband. 

Poojary, the driver of the auto rickshaw, and another person called Sachin have sustained injuries. The local people and the police helped move them to the hospital. 

The Udupi police have registered a case.
