MCC cracks down on builders transporting soil

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 16, 2012 : The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has begun cracking down on developers and builders who transport soil using unscientific methods and creating a lot of inconvenience for the public.

K. Harish Kumar, commissioner of MCC, said that unscientific transportation of soil during the monsoons creates a number of problems and cannot be permitted. The wet soil spills on concrete roads and makes them slippery and unsafe for riders and motorists. Besides, it can even block the storm water drains and create artificial flooding, he said.

The civic body has issued a notice to all developers and builders, prohibiting the transportation of soil during the monsoons. Mr. Kumar said that the MCC will cancel licenses of those who violate the regulations.

Stating that the civic body confiscated three trucks transporting soil, he said that MCC officers will visit all construction sites to make sure that transportation of soil has been stopped. Anybody caught violating the rules will be dealt with sternly, he said.

However, the public has observed the builders are continuing transporting soil irrespective of the MCC directives.
