MCC’s ambitious SWM system implementation may be delayed

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Dec 28, 2014: The implementation of the ambitious Solid Waste Management System   of the Mangalore City Corporation is all likely to be delayed by at least a  fortnight much to the disappointment of the MCC which wanted to kick start the scheme  on  New Year.

According to sources,  there has been a delay in getting registered the vehicles meant for waste collection and transportation. It has also been gathered that the contractor  of the SWM has sought 15 days time  to complete the registration process. It is learnt the Transport Commissioner of Bengaluru too has to give his consent, the main reason being that the modified vehicles are not registered in Karnataka.
Gokuldas Nayak, in-charge Commissioner of MCC said the  garbage disposal works would be done by the existing contractors till the new system is in place.

The contract for the SWM has been awarded to Antony Waste Handling Pvt Ltd. Its project director for the city Hariprasad Salian  said the registration of the vehicles got delayed  as the Transport Commissioner was busy and was not in Bengaluru.

He also informed that the ‘Garbage Vehicles” have to be registered  to avail insurance.
