Mangalore, April 28: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) conducted a raid on Bhoomika Plaza, a commercial complex in Kankanady, on April 27 Friday and confiscated four water pumps allegedly used to draw water directly from MCC’s main supply line.
Assistant Executive Engineer K. S. Linge Gowda said that the people of the locality were not getting any water because the commercial complex was illegally drawing water for its use.
He also said that MCC engineers went down to investigate following complaints from the people that they were not receiving any water. They first ascertained that the supply lines were not leaking, after which they found that the commercial complex was illegally using pumps to steal water from the supply lines.
The MCC has not yet seized the pumps, but has also disconnected water supply to five customers in the plaza. According to Mr. Gowda, one Jagannath Rao of Marigudi in Bolar was using the same technique to draw water illegally from the supply line. The MCC has seized his pump and has disconnected his water connection.
