MCC stops auto rickshaw for allegedly transporting illegal meat

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 6, 2012: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on June 6, Wednesday stopped an auto rickshaw that was allegedly being used to transport illegal beef to Kankanady market.

The MCC team checked the meat for the MCC seal, and although they found the MCC seal, they were still not satisfied. Suspecting the seal to be a fake, they summoned the MCC abattoir workers, who confirmed that the beef was indeed from the MCC slaughter house and that the auto rickshaw had stopped early that morning to load the beef.

The MCC team also called Dr. Ashok Kumar, a veterinary doctor, to inspect the meat. Finally satisfied that the meat was indeed legal and in a good condition, the officials returned the beef to the auto rickshaw driver, but seized his auto rickshaw. The Kadri police also registered a case.

Recently, the civic body has been conducting a number of raids on businesses run without proper trade licenses. MCC officers have already cracked down on illegal chaat stalls, shops, malls, slaughter houses, hotels, and street vendors all over Mangalore.
