Mangalore, Feb 5, 2014 : The various demands of the Karnataka State Electricity Employees Union and the Electricity Employees Federation of India affiliated to the CITU, were highlighted at a protest organised in front of the MESCOM Head Office in Mangalore on February 5, Wednesday.
The agitators strongly condemned the ‘double standards’ adopted by the MESCOM officials towards the poor employees. An allegation was also heard that the staff were also unnecessarily harassed by some MESCOM officials. The agitators also demanded fulfilment of some of their demands at the earliest. The protestors urged the MESCOM to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the next of kin of Deviprasad, an employee who died while on duty at Sullia some time back.
MESCOM employees from various branches participated in the protest. Prominent among the participants were BM Bhat, Honorary President of Karnataka State Electricity Employees’ Union, Mahesh, Secretary of the Union and Vasanth Achari.
