Mangaluru, June 01, 2019: Following protest by Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja and parents of endosulfan victims, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr M Ramakrishna Rao convened a meeting of all stakeholders, including Seon Ashram Trust, at Endsoulfan Daycare Centre in Kokkada today June 1, Saturday.
The parents of endosulfan victims and Poonja protested handing over the daycare centre for endosulfan victims to Seon Ashram Trust without taking the parents into confidence.
They also stalled the process of handing over the keys of the centre to Seon Ashram Trust and urged DK DC to respond to their demands.
DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao later contacted MLA over the phone and attempted to convince him that the tendering process in awarding the contract of running six daycare centres for endosulfan victims for a period of three years had been done in a transparent manner. The first tender was cancelled following objections from Seon Trust and thus the second tenders had been floated in March this year.
Dr Rao later agreed to convene a meeting of stakeholders of daycare centre including parents of endosulfan victims at Daycare centre for endosulfan victims in Kokkada today June 1, Saturday (2 pm). Following Dr Rao’s assurance the protesters withdrew their dharna, sources stated.
