MRPL makes its first dispatch of ’Petcoke’

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Dec 7, 2014: MRPL - Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd,  successfully conducted its first coastal dispatch of ’Petcoke’  by barge Suryamukhi from NMP jetty number six on Dec 6, Saturday to Tamil Nadu. This Pet Coke parcel has been sold to Ramco Cements Limited. MRPL produces special grade, ash less petcoke, ideal for cement kilns as the end product in their state of art delayed coker unit (DCU) commissioned in April 2014.

The DCU converts low-value ’short residue’ (bottoms) into high-value products namely gasoil, naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas, and so on, thereby increasing the distillate yield. Around 30 per cent gets converted into special grade pet coke, which is in demand in the country. P C Parida, chairman, NMPT, H Kumar, managing director, MRPL, and senior officials from marketing department of MRPL and traffic department of NMPT  graced the event.
