Puttur, Aug 14, 2015: The Mangalore University Inter-college Swimming Championship 2015-16 was held at Dr Shivarama Karanatha Balavana swimming pool, Puttur.
In the men’s section, the team from St Aloysius (Autonomous) College, Mangaluru, won the first prize. The team from St Philomena College won the second prize while the teams from SMS College, Brahmavar, and GFGC, Barkur, won the third and fourth prizes, respectively.
In the women’s section, the team from Vivekananda College, Puttur, St Philomena College, Puttur, Alvas College, Moodbidri and St Aloysius (Autonomous) College, Mangaluru won the first, second, third and fourth prizes, respectively.
The individual champions in men’s and women’s sections were Yagnesh Bengre of St Aloysius (Autonomous) College and Asta Rai from Vivekananda College.
Savanoor Sitaram Rai, correspondent from Vidyadarshini Institutions, Savanoor, who inaugurated the event, said that the Balavana swimming pool has produced very competent swimmers. "In the last three years, modern techniques have been adopted to train swimmers," he added.
St Philomena College campus director Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who was the guest of honour, said that swimming was a natural exercise to achieve balance between the mind and the body.
Participants at the All India University event Preetham Karath, Niroop G R, Sweekrath Anand and Shreyas Anand were felicitated on the occasion.
