Mangalore, Nov 28, 2012 : Five madarasas coming under the Samastha Kerala Islam Vidhyabhyasa board in DK have opposed the state government’s move to impose syllabus on them.
The government recently issued a number of circulars to these madarasas, as a result of which they are so miffed that they have threatened to launch a massive protest if the government does not withdraw the orders at the earliest possible.
According to K. L. Umar Darimi of the DK District Madarassa Management Association, the state government is acting on the advice of local BJP leaders and forcing madarassas to accept syllabus that they have not chosen. Further, he said that it is up to the local jamaaths to set the syllabus, and the government, which does not offer any financial aid to the madarassas, ought not to interfere in its affairs.
Recently, S. K. Bellubbi, minister for agriculture, haj, marketing, and wakf, issued a circular to five madarassas in DK that they should follow the syllabus prescribed by the Islamic Education Board. According to Mr. Darimi, these madarassas have been teaching syllabus set by the Samastha Board ever since 1951.
Coir Board Member T. M. Shahid said that certain Muslim BJP leaders and members of the Wakf Board are making use of the state government to pressurize the five madarassas into accepting syllabus they do not want. He warned of intense protests if this interference in madarassa affairs does not stop.
