Madhavi’s death - Kin blame govt hospitals

Mangaluru, Oct 18, 2015 :  Addressing media in the City,  Murthy, brother of the deceased woman, Madhavi, who died after delivery, accused the doctors of the Lady Goschen and Wenlock hospitals of negligence.  He said that when Madhavi was admitted to the Lady Goschen Hospital for delivery, there was no specialist doctor at the hospital. Madhavi delivered a male child. The next day, the hospital recommended that she be shifted to the government Wenlock Hospital, as there were complications related to the delivery. In spite of being admitted to the district hospital, there was no improvement in her condition. Madhavi was now taken to the AJ Hospital, where she died.

The hospital gave a bill of Rs 2.4 lakh, of which Rs 2.15 lakh was cleared by Madhavi’s relatives who had to borrow money from different people as they belong to a BPL family. Murthy alleged that the staff at the Lady Goschen and Wenlock hospitals were negligent regarding Madhavi’s condition, and failed to give her relatives any information about it. He also demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh and that an investigation be conducted on Madhavi’s death.  The relatives will also take out a protest rally from Clock Tower till the deputy commissioner’s office at 10.30 am on Oct 19, Monday and conduct a meet in front of the office.
