Madhwa-Purandarotsava to begin in Udupi today

Udupi, Jan 26, 2017: Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt said on Wednesday that the Madhwa-Purandarotsava would be held at Rajangana here from Thursday to Sunday.

The Pejawar seer told reporters on Wednesday that the 700th anniversary celebrations of the exponent of Dwaita philosophy, Sri Madhwacharya, leaving for Badari and making his exit after completing his spiritual journey would be held here from January 30 to February 6. The Madhwa Tatwajnana Sammelan would be held on February 3 and 5, and the Nyaya Sudha Mangalotsava on February 6.

Many scholars are expected to deliver lectures during the four-day Madhwa-Purandarotsava. The seers of the ashta mutts and Subudhendra Tirtha of Raghavendraswamy Mutt will participate. Already, about 2,000 devotees have arrived in Udupi to participate in Madhwa-Purandarotsava. More are expected to arrive here in the coming days.

Meanwhile, among the dignitaries set to take part in the 700th anniversary celebrations are H.D. Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister, H.K. Patil, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation, B.S. Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister, and K.S. Eshwarappa, former Deputy Chief Minister.
