Mangaluru, Aug 04, 2016: The DK, Dakshina Kannada district unit of AAP, Aam Admi Party has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Mahadayi dispute to find an amicable solution for the vexed issue. The sharing of water from the Mahadayi river is now a bone of contention between the three riparian States-particularly Karnataka and Goa.
Addressing a protesters, state co-convener Shanthala Damle said that the long-standing and eagerly awaited project of Mahadayi river was a ray of hope for the people of north Karnataka . "But, the project may become a mirage due to the irresponsibility of 224 MLAs and 28 MPs of the state," she said, adding that Lok Sabha member Nalin Kumar Kateel should to act responsibly on the issue.
"When the whole area of Mumbai Karnataka is in flames due to Mahadayi agitation, all the 28 MPs, including Kateel, could have easily approached the prime minister with a request to intervene and settle the matter out of court. The elected representatives could have prevailed on Modiji," she said.
Its a tragedy that 17 BJP MPs are trying to justify the partisan acts. Also, the Congress and JD(S) MPs did not bother to raise the issue in Parliament either, she added. She said that AAP wants all the 28 MPs to forget their political affiliation, stand united and put pressure on the prime minister to intervene and get justice to Karnataka.
In a memorandum submitted to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, the members said that the if the MPs were unable to hear voice of the people and carry it to Parliament/prime minister and work for the people they should declare themselves unfit to serve people and give up politics. The AAP will organise intense people’s agitation if action is not forthcoming.
