Mahakalipadpu railway cross RuB, a non starter

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 16, 2016: The construction of the RuB, road underbridge at the Jeppu Mahakalipadpu railway level crossing on the busy southern gateway of Mangaluru towards Kerala remains in limbo as neither the MCC, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) nor the State government appears willing to bear the construction cost.

When the issue was raised at the Railways review meeting called by Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, on July 15, Friday, Palakkad’s Divisional Railway Manager Naresh Lalwani said MCC wants two RuBs with four lanes (2+2). The construction cost would come to around Rs. 21 crore and if the State administration deposits the amount with the Railways, the work can start, he said.

MCC consultant Dharmaraj said the RuBs are crucial for the city as they would considerably reduce the traffic burden at Bhagwan Mahaveer (Pumpwell) Circle. However, MCC engineers made it clear the corporation lacks the funds to go ahead with the projects. They said there has been no response from the government on this matter.
