Malpe: Huge whale caught in fishing net

Udupi, September 23, 2015: A fisherman who had ventured into fishing from Malpe port had a pleasant surprise when a huge whale  was caught in his nets. A large crowd of curious  people gathered at the  sea shore to catch a glimpse   of the huge shark.

The 35 feet long whale weighed approximately 2500 kgs and had to  be  pulled to the shores with the help of a crane.  The  shark was later abandoned in the sea as  it had no value and was not ideal for consumption. It is believed that it was a whale shark  of the Rhincodon Typus species.
