Mangaluru, Mar 13, 2015: A 45-year-old resident of Kuttar died on Thursday following an injury he sustained on March 9. The family members allege that he was attacked by a group suspected to be involved in illegal sand extraction from river bed.
The police said Madhava, a resident of Kuttar, was admitted to Wenlock Hospital following the rupture of spleen on March 9. His wife said the injury was because of a fall from a compound wall. The police said Madhava was shifted to a private hospital in Deralakatte where he died following a surgery.
Madhava’s brother Karunakara on Thursday filed a complaint that his brother had been assaulted by a group that was unhappy with him for objecting to the group’s involvement in extraction of sand from river bed in Adyar.
He alleged that Madhava had been kidnapped on March 8 and then assaulted badly. He has accused the group of murdering Madhava.
The Mangaluru Rural police have registered a case of murder. The police said there were no external injuries on Madava showing assault. They are waiting for autopsy report.
