Man kills wife and assaults new-born in hospital

Moodubidri , June 23, 2012 : A man killed his wife and assaulted his new-born baby with a sickle at the Moodubidri Community Health Centre on the night of Wednesday.

The deceased is Jayanthi, who delivered a baby boy on Tuesday. Her husband Jayanth, who works as a mechanic, killed her with a sickle, injured the baby, and then fled the scene. Reportedly, he threw away the sickle at the gates of the hospital.

Jayanth is believed to have killed his wife because he suspected her fidelity.

The baby is now being treated for injuries in Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore.

Jayanth and Jayanthi had a pre-marital relationship, owing to which she became pregnant. The couple got married a few months back.
