Mangalore, Nov 8: A 44-year-old man, a native of Mangalore who worked in Panaji, Goa, committed suicide in his rented flat at Altinho on Nov 6, Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Mr. Ramesh Shetty, who was employed by his brother in a dry fruits shop. Mr. Shetty’s entire family was in Mangalore when he took his life.
Police sources have revealed that Mr. Shetty closed the shop for the night at 10:30 p.m. and returned home. His brother called him on his mobile that night; but when the calls went unanswered, he requested friends to find out if everything was alright with Ramesh. The friends visited the flat and complained to the local police when Shetty refused to open the door. Later, the fire brigade was called and the door was broken open on Saturday evening.
Shetty had hanged himself from the ceiling with a towel. He has not left behind a suicide note explaining his action. His family in Mangalore has been informed.
The body has been sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. Currently, Panaji PSI Yogesh Pednekar is investigating the case.
