Mangaluru, Oct 16, 2015:  Oct 18, Sunday, the city will hold it’s very first ’hackathon’. A startUp Mitra in coordination with Novigo Solutions Pvt Ltd and Venturesity are all set to organize ’Mangalore Hackathon’ - campus edition 2015. The event will take place at Novigo Solutions Pvt Ltd at Empire Mall.

Nidhish Hosabettu, co-founder of StartUp Mitra -an online platform for budding entrepreneurs said that this would be Kudla’s first hackathon. The goal of the campus edition is to get students to apply their programming skills in order to create something that has value. One of the biggest barriers of computer science is the inability to apply coding skills in order to write useful software. A hackathon is a great way to fix this issue. By creating a makerspace, students are engaged and are able to collaborate to create something awesome. The hackathon will also introduce computer science to people with no experience and eliminate the social barriers associated with programming. By barriers he means beliefs like; Only boys can program, I have to be a genius to know how to code, and programming is nerdy.

The hackathon will be a fun; environment that will spur innovation and collaboration as well as increase diversity in the field of computer science. The event is also focused on placement and internship activity for students.

Mangaluru being the education hub has 22 engineering colleges and more than 7000 computer science and information technology engineering students. Mangalore Hack Campus edition screens and selects 100 students for the final round. In addition the Mangalore hackathon event will help startups to recruit best talents from Mangalore region.  The event would begin in the morning and will stretch till evening. The winning team will get exciting prizes and job offers and internships from reputed companies, added Nidhish.

The event is open to all those who have knowledge of computer programmes and analytical thinking. All those who are interested to participate in the event have to register at http://www.venturesity.com/challenge/id/114 or contact: nidhish@mangalorehack.com, www.mangalorehack.com.
