Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2015 : Entrepreneur Ganesh Nayak is true to his his passion for long rides on a Harley Davidson bikes. He did a cross-country ride with three bikers from Bengaluru - all the way up to Thimpu in Bhutan and back in a 23-day trip that covered 7000km across 12 states. Adopting the safety-first rule, the quartet on their Harley Davidson Street. Bob/Super Low, BMW F650 and Honda CBR 250 rode mainly during the day and stopped for the day at 6pm
Previously, in October 2012, he had done a 15-day trip, Mangalore to Bengaluru for a business conference rather than fly, an option presented to him by the organizers. Joining Ganesh Nayak, 32, on this trip were realtor Pradyumna Prasanna, 29, ophthalmologist Srikanth Narayanan, 36, and mechanical engineer Avinash PS, 26. While Ganesh planned his trip well in advance, he roped in Srikanth at a biker’s meet in Goa. Excited at long-distance biking - Srikanth’s friends Pradyumna and Avinash decided to join in and the quartet hit the Ghat circuit on January 23.
Taking a break en route, the foursome had a glimpse of the country’s rich and varied cultural and geographical diversity. They also tackled the good and bad aspects of Indian roads. "Mercifully, there was not a single breakdown or a puncture," Ganesh says. "There arent words to describe the experience," Dr Srikanth said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to cherish," adding it gave him a welcome break from the daily routine. "I saw the country’s rich and varied topography, culture, people and food habits during the trip," he added. The trip also helped the four of us bond as friends, Srikanth had done a shorter 2,000-km Leh to Chandigarh ride.
A holistic experience : For Ganesh, the Make in India moment came when the Bhutanese law enforcement authorities, during a routine check, thanked India for laying the road from the border to Thimpu, the national capital. "The road, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation, made me feel good about the country," Ganesh said. The quartet also used the Nathula Pass which ranks amongst the highest motorable passes.
It was not all about biking. They also took time off to trek to Taktsang monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, which is perched on a clifftop and one of the most breathtaking temples in the world. They also felt an adrenalin rush while navigating the Chele La Pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan. Heading back, the quartet took the East-South corridor to reach Mangaluru on February 16 to a rousing reception.Make your adventure a life experience.
