Udupi, Nov 28: Dr H S Ballal, the pro chancellor of Manipal University, has announced that the university will host the second All India Inter Health University Athletic Championship on MIT grounds from Dec 5 - 7. He was speaking at a press conference organized in Udupi on Nov 27, Friday.
He informed that the athletic meet is not restricted to medical students alone; even nursing and dental students can participate. Twelve universities have already entered for the event; and around 207 athletes are expected to participate. The largest group of athletes numbering 40 is from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
The MIT ground, which boasts of a red clay track, is now being prepared for the national sports event. The participating teams will be provided lodging at the MIT hostel and food at the new food court on the MIT Campus.
The chief guest will be Rachana Govil, former national-level long distance runner and winner of the Arjun Award, who is currently a national representative in shooting events and the director of Sports Authority of India, New Delhi. Vice Chancellor Dr Raj Warrier and Registrar Dr G K Prabhu were also present at the press conference.
