Manipal, Dec 18, 2013: Archana Jaivittal (28),a resident of Asare, won two bronze medals at swimming event at the first special Olympics Asia pacific Games held at Newcastle in Australia from December 1 to 7. Ms. Jaivittal won a bronze medal by being a part of the Indian relay team for the 4 X 25 m Freestyle Relay event on December 5. She received another bronze medal by being a part of the Indian Relay team for 4 X 50 m Medley event on December 6.
Ms. Jaivittal had her preliminary rounds on December 2,in which she was selected to participate in finals. On December 3, she won fourth place in both her individual events.
Nearly 2,500 special Olympics athletes, 600 coaches and officials , over 4,000 volunteers and an estimated two lakh spectators from over 4,000 volunteers and an estimated two lakh spectators from over 38 countries in the Asia pacific region had converged in Newcastle to participate in the first special Olympics Asia pacific Games. The entire event was well organized and the athletes were taken care of in the best way possible. Ms. Jaivittal is the daughter of K.S.
