Manipal, Sep 18, 2015: Several new projects and schemes were announced to mark the 80th birthday of Manipal University Chancellor Dr Ramdas M Pai, celebrated at Fortune Inn Valley View lawns in Manipal.

The new programmes :  Pension Scheme for teaching faculty and non-teaching staff with effect from April 1, 2016 as per the national pension scheme of Government of India, increase in the limit of Manipal Arogya Suraksha (MAS) scheme, Manipal University Bursary to set up corpus fund for instituting scholarships and student assistance for various academic programmes in the University, where the existing spend of Rs 15 crore will be increased to Rs 25 crore per annum from the next year (2016) and to create a separate block for super speciality services at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

Also, MEMG group of companies will contribute Rs 80 crore towards the fund, to be shared by the three universities of the group, for academic development, student scholarships and employee welfare.

The Manipal University, Manipal, will get Rs 50 crore, Manipal University, Jaipur, will get Rs 20 crore and Sikkim Manipal University Rs 10 crore, under Dr Ramdas and Vasanthi Pai Endowment Fund.

Dr Ramdas Pai said that he was inspired from his father about the need to do something for the welfare of the society, particularly towards illiteracy, ill health and poverty.

A book titled "Manipal and Beyond," authored by Dr Glenn Christo about the life and times of Dr Pai was also released by Chief Guest Justice Dr M Rama Jois.   Manipal University Vice Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat, Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal, Registrar Dr G K Prabhu, MAGE Chairman T V Mohandas Pai and UGC former chairman Dr Hari Gautam were present.
