Udupi, Aug 05, 2016: Reports state the Udupi District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said Mannu Palla lake has been developed at a cost of Rs 2.30 crore.  He was speaking after boating facility was opened at the lake in Manipal.

He said the district administration has introduced boating in the lake. A company has come forward to maintain cleanliness in the area too. The urban development authority had invited tenders for the purpose and the contractor will pay Rs 2.30 lakh every year to the authority, he added.

He said utmost care should be taken for the safety of visitors and lifeguards are a must. If people fail to use the lifeguards while boating, strict action should be taken against them, he added.  Hundred acres of the lake area is engulfed with fabulous picturesque ambience. The lake is spread across 55 acres of land and the water is crystal clear with greenery. The area is expected to be a tourist destination fetching a huge revenue in the long run. Twelve boats, including water scooters, family boats, row boats and pedal boats, are available for visitors. The pedal boat will help to enjoy the boating experience in summer due to decrease in the water level.

Nagaraj Reddy, owner of the private agency, said additional boats will be introduced based on demand. The company has bagged tender for five years. There is a rescue boat with expert swimmers in case of emergencies, he added.  The row boats, pedal boats and water scooters are available on rent at Rs 50 per head per half an hour. The boating facility willbe available from 7 am to 7 pm all the days in the week.
