Udupi, Jan 1, 2016 : : Students of MIT - Manipal Institute of Technology left their stamp of class at IIT-Bombay, this time in TechFest recently. AeroMIT team clinched first position in its maiden appearance at Boeing National Aero modelling Competition from West zone. Team overcame stiff competition from 37 teams including IITs and NITs to clinch the honour. The team secured second position in aviator design competition presented by the Airbus Group.
These performances have added more feathers in the AeroMIT’s cap and motivates us to continue achieving to keep MITs and Manipal University’s name flying high, said Aniruddha Poddar, team leader. AeroMIT will next compete in the national level competition in IIT Delhi and the international competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE AeroDesign in Fort Worth Texas in collaboration with Lockheed Martin in March 2016.
AeroMIT is a team of 20 plus interdisciplinary aero modelling enthusiasts who design, build, test and fly radio controlled aircrafts. Team members are: Aniruddha Poddar, Anshul Sharma - structures subsystem head; Anuj Arora - aerodynamics subsystem head; Achyuth Vishwamitra - electronics subsystem head. Others are - Twinkle Kothari, Dheer Verma, Arunabha Bhattacharya, Arjit Seth, Siddharth Shukla, Sristhi Chitturu, Aditya Dogra, Hariharan Venkatesh, Akshina Soni, Udayan Shloke, Rhea Matthews, Ayush Verma, Gaurav Rajput, and Prateek Khandekar.
Arunabha Bhattacharya, 4th year electronics and communication engineering student piloted the plane in the Boeing National Event called Maatal. Aniruddha, third year civil engineering student of MIT piloted the plane in the aviator design event, called Platypus. The event was organized by Boeing and Aerotrix. The teams were required to perform skillful aerobatic manoeuvers involving passing through small entry and exit gates, spot landings and precision payloads.
