Mangaluru : At least a 114 paying guest(PG) accommodations within Mangaluru Police Commissionerate, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the city police commissioner, registered at their local police stations, from July 12.
City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil had, on July 12, directed all the hostels, paying guest accommodations and service apartments operating in Mangaluru to register with the jurisdictional police station.
To ensure the safety of youth and to check illegal activities, the commissioner, using the powers under the Karnataka Police Act 1963 Section 65 and 70, had issued a set of guidelines to owners running these accommodations.
Citizens are of the view that it is also very important to monitor students and workers renting flats. Renting independent flats in groups is a planned strategy to avoid all controls and misuse, renting flats needs to be regulated better.
The city police, in a continued crackdown on drugs and prevention of use of drugs in paying guest accommodation, paid surprise visits to some PG accommodations on July 16, Tuesday. The inmates were also advised against such habits, checks will continue until matters are controlled.
