Mangalore, Dec 30: Alva’s Virasat, a national-level cultural fest, will be organized from Jan 6 - 10 at Shobhavana in Mijar, Moodubidri.
Inauguration on Jan 6
During a press conference organized on Dec 29, Tuesday, Dr. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation said that the Alva’s Virasat National Award will be conferred Dr. M Balamuralikrishna the highly acclaimed classical musician during this event. A procession will escort the award-winner to the venue at 5:45 p.m. B S Yeddiyurappa, the chief minister of Karnataka, will inaugurate the event. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, D Veerendra Heggade, will preside over the programme.
N Vinay Hedge, the chancellor of Nitte University; Dr B R Shetty, the managing director of the new medical centre; J M Garg, the chairman of Corporation Bank; K Balachandra Rao, the deputy general manager of Canara Bank; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; and Amarnath Shetty, the former minister will be the chief guests of the event.

This national-level festival will comprise cultural programmes galore.
On January 6, Tarun Bhattacharya will offer a santhoor recital from 7:30 - 10 p.m. Pandit Abhijit Banerjee and Ustad Thaufik Kureshi will accompany him on tabla and drums, respectively.
On Jan 7, Kadri Gopalnath, Surmani Praveen Godkindi, and others will present a jugalbandhi from 6 – 8 p.m. Sharmila Biswas and team of Kolkata will present an Odyssey dance performance from 8:40 - 10 p.m.
On January 8, Praveen Godhindi on flute, Pandit Purbayan Chatterjee on Sitar, Sathyajith Talvalkar on tabla, Arun Kumar on drums, Keetha Peters on bass guitar, Joheb Hussain on keyboard will present a unique jugalbandhi from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Nrithya Grama of Bangalore will offer a dance performance from 8:40 to 10 p.m.
On January 9, L N Shastri, Ganesh, Ajay Warrier, Joy Petre, Prashanth Rai, Anuradha, Shamitha Mallad, and Divya Raghavan will present Sangeeth Rasasanje from 6 - 10 p.m.
On January 10, 60 winners of the Talent Competition organized by India Government will present a variety programme from 6 - 9:30 p.m. The Purulio Chao group of dancers will present “Mahishasura Mardhini” from 9:30 - 10:30 p.m.
State-level artists’ camp
On Jan 3, Alva’s Education Foundation will organize a state-level camp for artists "Alva’s Varna Jagrithi" at Shobhavana, Mijar.
During a press conference, Dr. Mohan Alva said that 700 artists will paint across a canvas extending to 750 meters from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Khande Rao, the president of the Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy, will inaugurate this camp. P Jayaram Bhat, the managing director of Karnataka Bank, will be the chief guest.
