Mangaluru, March 10, 2020: Demanding the government to revoke its decision to merge Syndicate Bank and Corporation Bank, the members of like-minded organisations staged a protest in front of Gandhi Statue at Town Hall in Mangaluru recently.
Addressing the protesters, advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepady said, “The cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given approval for the merger of banks. The merger of banks is against the interest of the common man. The people of the coastal belt should condemn the move.”
Opposing the merger of banks, a series of memorandums have been submitted to the government through the Union minister. In spite of it, the government has failed to revoke its order, he said.
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla said, “All the political parties except the BJP had staged a protest opposing the merger of Vijaya Bank in the past. Now, no one is raising their voice. The promise of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to save Vijaya Bank has not been fulfilled.”
The people of the district are being misled by stating that founders photo of Syndicate Bank and Corporation Bank will be kept at the head office of the banks. The merger of banks will have an impact on the economy, he added.
